Hope 2008

A number of initiatives have been running throughout the year as part of the nationwide Hope 08 campaign. The aim has been to reach out to people across the country, bringing good news in word and action. Helping to transform neighbourhoods through community projects, uniting in prayer, encouraging young people to get involved.

In Warrington churches have united in prayer, planning and action. In Birchwood we have enjoyed several events over the past few months.

May Day Bank Holiday weekend - Birchwood Community Church teamed up with Thomas Risley Church to pray in earnest. Engine rooms of prayer!

A Million Hours of Kindness - 9-10 May - Co-ordinated by Thomas Risley Church, local initiatives focused on a wide-ranging array of community activities. Ironing, car-washing, gardening, crafts, legal advice, football. You name it, we did it.

Hope Challenge - July - Seven community projects were designed by Year 9 learners at Birchwood Community High School. Throughout June and July the work engaged teachers, learners, helpers from Thomas Risley Church and Birchwood Community Church. It also attracted funding and support from Cheshire Crimebeat. Congratulations to the Glittery Gang, the winning team that collected the Hope 08 Challenge Trophy in the awards ceremony.

Duggie Dug Dug - September - Children's worship leader Duggie Dug Dug spent a weekend in Birchwood. He led a children's worship workshop, gave an evening concert and led the morning service worship at Birchwood Community Church. An entertaining weekend, providing plenty of fun and creativity along with solid teaching. Duggie got children and adults out of their seats as well as giving them much food for thought.
