A Turning Point
Many of us will recognise times in life when significant changes take place; changes that can, in some cases, have a major impact on our very being. These events can include leaving home to go to University, finding the right job, getting married, having children, losing loved ones and finding faith. All these life-changing events can in most cases be recognised in later life as being important ‘turning points’. We can look back and say that going to University made us independent, getting a job brought self-sufficiency, getting married required thinking for the wellbeing of another, having children adding another dimension of joy (including grey hairs), losing a loved one demonstrating the fragility of existence in this place and finding faith in Christ bringing assurance of life eternal. These personal turning points are important to us and make us what we are.
This week has brought another turning point, less personal, maybe, and more communal. A turning point in the life of Birchwood Evangelical Church; not the first by any means, but certainly one of the most important in the existence of this fellowship. This week, legal documents were signed on behalf of the Church, by John, Phil and myself formalising the decision the Church had made to move into the Birchwood community and a new place of worship. To some extent we are moving in uncharted territory, the challenges ahead are significant but we can trust in the fact that our Lord God is ahead of us clearing the path. As in our personal life, this turning point in the life of the Church will also bring about a change that we can all look back to in the future and recognise as being important, even though it may not seem so today.
We’ve committed to this ‘turning point’ together, and together we can see it through; it will need all of us. Let’s not look back now, but press on and receive the blessings our Lord God has in stall for us.
